Peppers

A gentleman recently told me that in Macedonia there are 100 ways to make peppers.  I think he is right (and all of them are delicious)!  Last Thursday Marjana taught me how to make stuffed peppers.  We had a blast and the recipe is below.  🙂

Marjana mixing up the seasoning.

Making sure the meat is fully defrosted.

Then you have to clean out all of the peppers.

And stuff them with the meat, rice, spice mixture like this.

Top each one off with tomato, add some water and oil, and throw ’em in the oven.

While they’re cooking you can relax and enjoy good company.

After a while, add a flour/ oil combination and then return the pot to the oven to finish cooking.

And voila!

STUFFED PEPPERS

½ kilo ground meat — Appx. 1 lb.
1 packet spice mix — You can experiment with your spices
100g rice (uncooked) — About a cup
10 peppers (hollowed)
3 or 4 tomatoes

Add ½ glass of warm water to spice mix and blend
Let stand for 10 minutes
Mix together ground meat with spice mix
Stir in rice and scoop mixture into peppers
Use slices of tomato to seal each pepper
Place peppers in a baking dish
Pour a little oil in the bottom of the dish
Fill dish half-full with water
Bake for just under an hour

Dice up 2 or 3 tomatoes
Mix about 2 Tsp of salt with the tomatoes
Pour tomato mixture over peppers and return dish to the oven

Pour oil in a skillet until the bottom is covered
Add 2 TBSP of flour and blend together
Pour flour mixture over peppers and tomatoes and return to oven
Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes
